Rajesh N. Sharan, Ph. D., is a Full Professor of Genetics and Molecular Biology at Department of Biochemistry and Director of Design Innovation Center at the North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong (India). A Molecular Biologist and Biochemist by training with over 3 decades of research in the domain of cancer and radiation molecular biology, Rajesh has special interests in the molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis of betel (Areca) nut and chemicals, radiation induced DNA damage, and genomic & epigenetic biomarker discovery for cancer and radiation damage assessment for their clinical applications. He has deep interest in the field of tobacco related human cancers and is a leading voice of tobacco harm minimization in India. Earlier, he earned his doctorate at Jawaharlal Nehru University, India and did his post-doctoral research at the Institute of Medicine, FZ Jűlich, and at DKFZ Heidelberg in Germany. He has been a Visiting Professor at FZ Jűlich and an Invited Professor at Osaka University, Japan. He has over 110 research publications in international and national journals and six books, including a textbook, of repute to his credit with a citation of >1200. He also holds few patents. Presently, he is an Associate (handling) Editor of the Journal of Radiation Research (Japan) and is a member of an international CRP of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna (2017-21).
