Ian Jones is the R&D Principal Scientist at Japan Tobacco International (JTI), based in Geneva, Switzerland. Ian is biomedical scientist currently responsible for overseeing R&D’s fundamental scientific research strategy, working with scientists in the company’s various scientific research and analytical service centres around the world.
Previously, Ian worked in JTI’s Reduced-Risk Products Department, overseeing reduced-risk product science strategy and assessment programs. Prior to that, Ian led the Product Stewardship Team in JTI’s Scientific & Regulatory Affairs Department.
Ian joined JTI in 2006 from the University of Bath, UK, where he was a lecturer in Developmental Neuroscience at the Department of Biology and Biochemistry. Prior to this he held post-doctoral research positions at the Universities of Bath, Oxford, and London, specializing in the anatomical neuropharmacology of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. He holds a PhD in cell physiology, completed at Imperial College, London (1995).
